LGBT Rights

  • I strongly support non-discrimination legislation
  • I support marriage equality

Despite improvements for LGBT American’s, there is still a deficit when it comes to non-discrimination protection for millions of people. Passing the Equality Act would amend existing laws, which include the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Housing Act and more.

When the Supreme Court ruled on Obergefell v. Hodges, love won. I will help uphold the decision by voting against any bill that seeks to deny the rights of American’s based on the composition of their legally recognized marriage or any component therein. Conversely, I will not vote for any legislation that provides same-sex marriages with benefits that are not available to opposite-sex marriages.

Facing discrimination because of who you are or who you love is a terrible experience. It leads to depression, withdrawal from society, addiction and suicide. It hurts every community. As human beings, we need to practice compassion. This means actively supporting people in practice and not in words alone.
